Quote: I'm sure it will go in the trash when I pass away Please donate them to a youth program, or to a friend before allowing them to go that route. Such effort & enjoyment should always be bestowed to others. Quote: That is roughly 22,000 stamps 50c & 55c + high values.
Face Value approx $11,000. It's like winning the Lottery. I must ask that you refrain from dumping onto a bed and rolling around in them naked. Regards, Stampalotapus |

How about the 1920 Austrian Karnten overprints, Scott B11-29. The mint set is $9.40, the used $26.40.
Soak the gum off and we have used stamps? NOT! |

Used To Be Used.
As a person that sells used Australia basically from 2000 to now I source my used stamp however I can. It is a big challenge to get used very modern Australia. More difficult than the vast majority think.
So when this issue of used stamps came up when I 1st started selling used stamps I defined "Used" and in all of my listings this definition of used included.
"Used can mean from 1st Day Cover, Maxicard, by mailing, cancelled to order, special cancels and no gum or cancel etc." |

There appears to be opposing factions on this topic, some are hardliners on the stance.

She stated "look at you" (gesturing to my rotund physique). I told her, "well, stop cooking so well, and maybe I'll shed some pounds." Regards, Stampalotapus |

I don't think uncancelled stamps with No Gum are used or should be called used. Some stamps in Scott are listed at a much higher price for used than unused and this designation is clearly for stamps used in the mail.
The situation that I think is really on the edge is when Auction Houses list classic US covers {#1s for example) as "untied unused" and the auction prices shown that bidders are looking at the "unused No Gum" catalogue price. My 2012 Scott shows US #1 as $575 on cover but $2400 No Gum. Clearly an untied #1 is worth a lot more off cover even though it was used through the mail. |

I believe more often you'll find classics with cancels, pen, grids etc... that do not tie it to the cover it's attached to. |

Such as a Wheeling-Grid Pre-Cancel - You have a point there. Regards, Stampalotapus |

For older stamps I would consider them more valuable if not canceled but I would also consider them more valuable if lightly canceled. everyone wants their item to sound like its worth more if they selling it and I have gotten collections were people literaly stuck the new stamps in an album by licking them. In the end of the day the thing that has always stuck in my head is every collectable is worth the same thing. Answer: What the next person is willing to pay for it. |
