Another Really Bad Forgery

Anyone who knows anything about these overprints would see instantly that this is a fake, but there may be newbies who would not.

The seller's other items are all also overprinted stamps, but I don't know enough about those issues to tell if they are, as I suspect, also all fakes.

Ebustad, I must be one of those newbies? Why is this a fake in your opinion?

The font used for the overprint and the spacing of the lines of text is all wrong. Here is an example of this stamp from my collection. Compare it to the image in the ebay listing.

yes, all fake overprints, have you reported any of them to ebay,

All his other items looks like poor forgeries as well.

I reported the fake Togo occupation overprint, but not the others as I do not have the knowledge to definitively identify them as fakes.

This item http://www.ebay.ca/itm/281785117059, overprinted Schonbach Sudetenland is so obviously fake - not only is the cancel location wrong (Pilsen), the year date is wrong (1922). Sudetenland was not created until 1938!

This is obviously a genuine Czechoslovakia used stamp with a fake overprint -- yet it sold for $21.50.

I asked the seller of the stamp in the original post if the overprint was genuine. His response: "I'm sorry I'm not an expert on overprinting."

His listing disclaimer does say: "For details about the item, check - images, Condition description and Item specifics. Item in the picture is the item that you will receive."

Well, it is an interesting forgery in my opinion. There are two letters in the typesetting that are sans-serif and of the wrong size; they are inconsistent for the rest of the overprint (the "p" in occupation and the "e" in anglaise). So, I would certainly pay a few dollars for this item, but not what the final bidder paid.

This being said, I wouldn't buy from a person who plays dumb and didn't identify the item as forgery.

ebay is ebay, and they don't really care...as we all know.
