I am new in the community and see a 2011 thread on this topic. I'd like to revive the theme because I am educating a group of academic colleagues in Disability Studies (DS) on how stamps are underutilized in their research.
As DS researchers they will be instinctively familiar with three categories or Models of Disability. Being aware of their mental filing system might help you recall stamps to post here and understand some of the polilltics.
The Charity Model has care as its goal. The Medical Model has cure as its goal. The Social Model has inclusion as its goal. The Jerry Lewis / MDA Telethon was US Labor Day (tomorrow) tradition melding the first two while those more inclined to the Social Model of Disability were more likely to be among his critics.
My goal is to point DS researchers to stamps as historical artifacts. The first step is for us to compare the various topical lists on disability and see if we can come up with something exhaustive that includes stamp images. Please contribute if you can.
