Can anyone help me with the Russian cancellation at the top of this clip? I am specifically wanting to know what city it is from.

Based on other covers from Norway to Russia in this era it was almost certainly sent to St. Petersburg.

Are you assuming this is Russian?

I also think it is a Russian cancel but not so sure about St. Petersburg. It looks to me it's like something-ERNOV or something-ERTSOV. Not sure. If in deed it is -ERNOV, it could be Pernov, the Russian name for the present Estonian town Parnu which was part of Imperial Russia at that time.

Here is a postmark from Pernov, though some forty years later.

Thanks for the helpful responses. Pernov makes perfect sense if the letter was carried by ship during the cold weather months when parts of the Eastern Baltic freeze over. This would probably have been a transit cancel on the way to St. Petersburg.
The likely recipient of the letter was Gustaf Sterkey & Son. The remnants of the address also seem to match.
