Hi there to all. I have a unused black penny with no margins, is this still valuable. I tried to research what plate number this one has but it seems that I have to buy a £160 book to do this. Does anyone here has the book for black penny plating? Or maybe somebody with more knowledge than me about black penny?

benbenbenny, welcome to this forum. In my opinion you have a great space filler until something better comes along. One suggestion. On another forum, www.stamporama.com there is a project underway of making a page with all the letter combinations on it. "JB" is missing from that Page! Peter |

Looks like plate 6, but tough for me to tell positively without a bit more of the margins.
As to its value? Without margins and with what appears to be some damage on the front between the southwest corner and the bottom of the bust, you'll take a mighty hit, but there'll be only one way to really see and that is to put it up for sale.
Hope this helps,
Larry |

Does the bottom left have a surface flaw, or just "fuzz" on the face of the stamp? If it is a flaw, I think it might reduce the number of people who would think it was an acceptable spacefiller. If it comes off, I bet there would be a number of people who would be interested in this.
I agree that a value is a tough guess. |

Thank you for the warm welcome Petert4522, I just had a look at the website and wanted to register to help but it ask me to fill out my complete details, address, phone number etc... I don't fill out my full details on internet for security and privacy reasons.. But if somebody is already registred on that website than I will give him permission to use this picture to use for the missing J,B
Thank you for the help ldhaber, this helps a lot. I found a website for comparison and it could be the plate 6. Putting the stamp up for auction is NOT a option... I'm happy with my find and will keep it in till I find a better one. (in this condition it would be not worth between £50 a £75 in my opinion, so its not really worth putting it up for sale)
Yes Cjd, it has a flaw on the face surface. A bit of black color is missing. Is there a way to retouch this?? Should I have a look into this or should I leave it like it is.

I'd be concerned that facial fuzz suggests a cancel has been removed, but don't worry - be happy. |

That would be indeed concerning.
I looked in the beginning with a magnifer because I was looking for a plate number (yes that would be amusing for many here).
The stamp looks unused to me, but it is a strange spot to have fuzz.
Will try to have a look with a 60x magnifier and take a picture of it.
