Which City/Town Is This Cancel From...?

Hi guys...Can anyone recognize the town cancel on the back of this cover...?
It originated from Montreal, but cant figure out the destination address.

Please ignore the top right corner, it is covered by the edge of the envelope.

Looks clear to me - and you must remember postal clerks in thos days could do the near impossible.

If there is a list of old post offices for Canada like there is for USA that is how I figure these things out sometimes. If we can barely read the stuff with pretty handwritting imagin what they did back them if you had bad hand writting

I have two books with list of Post Offices in Canada.

1) Canada Post Offices 1755-1895 (Campbell) - this is not expensive and is a hardcover book.

2)List of Post Offices in Canada on December 31st 1857 (Printed by Order of the Postmaster General). I found this online somewhere long ago, not sure where.

Unfortunately, neither is searchable. But these are good to have for me.

You can go to Canada Post website. There is a searchable databse of Canada Post Offices there. Older Post Offices will not be there.

ya, I saw it right away too. Penatang (for short) home of Ontario's hospital for the criminally insane (or whatever the politically correct term is these days).
Here's a book of photo stamps I picked up a year or two ago from Penatanguishene (I didn't pick them up there, they are FROM there). Early 20th century.

I have the Campbell book as well. Comes in handy.
Another one if you can find it is W. Bruce Graham's Ontario Broken Circles published by the Postal History Society of Canada.
Penatang's broken circles, like the one on the back of your cover are on pg 161. It will give you the periods of use of the specific cancels, and also when the post office was opened and, if applicable, closed.
Penetanguishene opened in 1830.

The Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care sounds much nicer. In the U.S. some are called "forensic psychiatric centers."

I've never seen a 19th Century corner card use the phrase "forensic psychiatric centers." The usual designation was "insane asylum." How's that for PC.
