Seller On Ebay Who May Be Shilling

The lot below had 2 different bidders with "0" ratings who also happened to place the highest 2 bids. A short time later, the seller offered me the stamp as a second-chance offer for my highest bid.

To me, this is strong evidence of shill bidding to see how high the seller could get the legitimate bids. Two 0-rated accounts? Not likely. Not proof, but use the info however you wish. I won't be bidding with this seller again.

I'm always leary of second chance offers in stamps, nobody should know their bidder isnt good that fast

What about when a seller has more than one of an item? In the lots I have been selling, I often have 2 or 3 of each sheet I am selling. If I think the price I got for the first one is fair, I offer the underbidder the second sheet at the price they entered. This is better than re-listing and hoping that there is a third bidder out there that wants the item and will bid up the lot.

when I used to sell sets of proof coins I used it also but not for a single stamp that according to the seller is rare.

I have had a seller offer me a second chance, but informed me that he had more than one of the item. Not only that fact, but also in every instance I knew the seller. In shermae's case I would definitely not do any business with this seller any more!

Actually, I've ONLY had second chance offers from sellers who had multiple copies. As a seller myself, I'd leave it for some time before I decided that a buyer was not going to pay. And then I'd try the ebay resolution route. And then I'd re-list if that got nowhere. shermae's offer doesn't look kosher.

I once had a buyer with a case of 'buyer remorse' contact me within minutes after a listing ended. He was the winning bidder on an item which sold for several thousand of dollars but said his wife no longer wanted the item. I let him off the hook 30 minutes later and followed up with a second chance offer to the next highest bidder; he accepted within an hour.

That said, I agree with sherme that the listing/bidding history noted in the OP appears to be very dubious.

Amusing to see that (in previous thread) some buyers dissed and some just avoided making an offer on a BIN listing, and here I see the same sentiment about second chance offers. Double missed opportunities.
