Thanks Geoff, I will look into buying directly from Yvert. Would definitely be better to have everything in one volume.

Smauggie: What albums are you using for your collections? I'm looking at Palo right now. They have (slightly) reduced rates for various colony pages that they have "bundled." I could just go with Steiner pages and save the money, but having nice Palo albums is very tempting.

Free French Colonies pages here, arranged by Yvert number:

I've been trying to find a three-volume printed album by Thiaude, which was available in the '60s - no luck as yet. I have a one-volume Thiaude, which is of the Big Blue ilk, i.e. representative, but not complete, so not right for my purposes.

Geoff, that catalog seems ideal.
Does anybody know if Yvert is also listing forerunners for the different colonies (postmarks on French stamps) - or is only Maury offering that?

Yvert has around eighty pages covering cancellations of French Colonies and French issues that appeared before the individual issues. Not as detailed as Maury, I think, although I haven't spent much time in that part of the catalogue!

Yvert's catalogues are also available by annual online subscription.

Thanks Geoffha, excellent feedback. Seems I should get myself an Yvert then, I would certainly spend some time on those pages
Guess you need your Yvert yourself for those nice French you just accumulated...enjoy!

Chris

If you're still looking, MOC also does hingeless French pages - although they may prove even dearer than Palo! This is Lighthouse's offer, but I think they can be found cheaper elsewhere:

Thanks everyone for the comments. A quick look at ebay and Amazon suggest neither Maury nor Yvert are easy to come by. And seems like the colonies are spread out in several different volumes. And in several cases, shipping cost were more than the actual cost of the catalog. Any other sources (other than ebay and Amazon) anyone suggest?

From another stamp BB, http://stampboards.com/viewtopic.ph...400#p4329716:

If anyone is looking for a copy of Maury Afrique 2014 I found a dealer in France selling it, with shipping to USA, for under 50 Euros (approx US$56.00) and they accept Paypal.

This is a LOT less that I paid to buy a copy via ebay!

Time to bring this thread back to life after 8 months. In the interim, I found the 2015 Afinsa Portuguese colonial catalog for sale on the web site of Filatelia Joaquim Macas, a Lisbon dealer. We weren't able to connect on line to arrange a purchase, due primarily that their major payment venue is PayPal and I don't have an active PP account. I was in Lisbon on a Saturday in late June, but they were scheduled out of town on a family matter. I'll be back in Lisbon in about a year and hope to connect with them at that time. For those interested in Portuguese colonies and have access to PayPal, they have a lot of neat stamps on their web site including items seldom seen in this country, like reprints. A good US dealer for Portuguese is D & P Stamps in California.

Thanks Climber Steve for bumping this thread; hadn't noticed it before.

I collect French Colonial issues up to the dates of independence; after that I have no interest. Also I collect selected British Colonies up to 1970 (that's the cut-off date in my 2011 SG); but, again, I have little interest in post-independence issues. I guess I have a preference for the SG catalogs as I use the v7 SG France which also includes Monaco, Andorra and French Colonies. Surprised that SG may have changed their format but, since I don't pay much attention to values, the versions I have probably will last for a long while.

I will add that one of my favourite colonies is St. Pierre & Miquelon, now I guess regarded as a "province" of France itself but still with its own postal system. I have been slowly accumulating issues from the 1960s and 70s - they seem rather expensive. I recently met a Nova Scotia-based dealer at a Moncton, N.B. stamp show with a good inventory and was able to buy some really nice covers. Hopefully, they will be at the BNAPS show in Fredericton this fall.

Colonies were some of my favorites when I was focused on my worldwide to 1940 collection. In the last year or two I've finally picked up some foreign collecting again as a sideline to my postal history collections and I'm doing Portuguese, Spanish, German, Dutch and Belgian colonies [all to independence] on Steiner pages. I enjoy the British and French colonies as well but I think the 5 are more than enough.

I collect French Colonies. Whilst I don't go out of my way to find them, I also like the post-colonial issues of the 1960s, which often continued to be engraved and printed in France. Some of the DOM and modern colonial issues seem to fetch pretty high prices, for instance, the French Antarctic issues.

To followup on the conversation in Oct., 2015 with DJCMHOH, I was in Lisbon last week and finally got a copy of the 2015 Mundafil catalog of the former Portuguese colonies--this is the current edition. Different name, but still Afinsa numbers. Got it from the previously mentioned Filataria Joaquim Macas. Was also able to fill some empty spaces in my collection with fine material from Joaquim and son Joao.

Yes. http://filatelia.com.pt There are versions in Portuguese and English.

Note that I just clicked on the link here and got an error message. Funny since I went on their site to conform the address (I have their site bookmarked). Try entering the web address directly into your browser.
