If there's nothing already out there, maybe you should begin by starting your own numbering system for the trading stamps you have. At least it would be a start. Personally, I'd like to see the various varieties that were used, especially those in the US.

An interesting history of trading stamps can also be found here. It's worth a read:

http://www.studioz7.com/stamps.html

What I found especially interesting is that trading stamps date back to 1891 in the US and the article does identify many of various department store and supermarket chains and what trading stamps brands they adopted for use.

Art Mongan did do a reference in 1999 but only 50 copies
were printed. I have been working on a book the last ten
years and hope to have it finished in about a year.

If anyone cares to share information and get credit for
doing so please contact me. My book will only
Include trading stamps issued in the US. It will
Also included related collectibles and history
From the early 1890's to 1910 era.

I have a copy of Arthur's book but have not had
any luck contacting him.

David

In a previous post, FCC1992 shared a button with a Home Trading Stamp center, surrounded by the slogan: "Why the Baby ... Ask the Mailman". Does anyone know the reason behind that slogan?

The reason I ask is I just found a similar (but different) one when surfing the web that reads: "Why the Baby ... Ask your Grocer".

I'm still not sure what the slogan was meant to convey.

Delivery men delivering to bored/lonely housewives, while their husbands were at work, delivering more than the mail et al.

There was a recent study - using mitochondrial DNA, if memory serves - that argued that this sort of thing was much more rare than popular fiction would have us believe.

I doubt that the study could be based on mitochondrial DNA as this comes from mother only and gives no clue on fathers.
