I would like to have at least one real Heligoland stamp. Does anyone know how to navigate through the minefield of fakes?

By a long way... Fritz Wagner's website used to be the best... and probably still is. Now that his collection has been sold the site is not updated but it is very very comprehensive in every detail.

He advises that interested people download the pages in case the web site disappears.

So, you will have seen that fake Heligoland stamps are reasonably rare. It is the ones with fake cancels that are troublesome. So, go for a MINT stamp if you want a real stamp... it will most likely be one of the reprints... but the reprints are not fakes.

Good advice, scot! I could live with a reprint.
