First Flight by JAL from Los Angeles to Tokyo, cds 19590601, with Dumbo Over DisneyLand cachet.

DisneyLand opened 1955, and very quickly became an icon for LA.

Q/ If not DisneyLand, what would they have used? The Hollywood sign?

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

Happily, the cover bears a Tokyo backstamp, so we know it arrived :)

It is a really nice cachet, though I think that it is taking some liberties to say that Disneyland is in Los Angeles. Disneyland is in Anaheim which is a different California city that is 26 miles to the southeast of Los Angeles.

I've met a lot of Angelinos over the decades, and I've yet to meet one who thought that DisneyLand was anywhere else ;)

Part of that may be because the park is an extension of the Disney movie empire. And, now that Disney has acquired most of the rights to most of the characters from both Marvel & the Star Wars franchise, their ability to use their movies to drive traffic to their theme parks has moved up by more than just a notch.

Cheers,

Hi Ikey.

Anaheim really is quite far from Los Angeles and there are several towns that are in between the two. Do you Angelino friends also say that Long Beach is part of Los Angeles, and Pomona, and Pasadena, and Santa Ana, and Oxnard, and Ventura, and Palmdale and the several dozen of other towns around southern California? That would be like a person from Bew York City saying that Newark, New Jersey is part of Manhatten or Huntington is part of Queens.

New Yorkers do not say that Newark is part of Manhattan, but they do say that it is part of the Greater New York Metropolitan Area.
