The stamp just arrived today and I'm inclined to leave it as is. What would you guys do?

Well, if you bought it from someone and it arrived like that, I would certainly complain to the seller. But it is not a very valuable stamp, so it is probably not worth sending back. As for unfolding it, why not? If you wet it first, it may unfold with less of a crease than otherwise.

Also, you can minimize the creasing by pressing after you have soaked the stamp. It is best to do this while the stamp is still damp, but not wet. Put the stamp between a layer of waxed paper (front and back) and rub back and forth with the bowl of a spoon. Depending on the severity of the crease and the kind of printing and paper, the crease will become much less visible.

I ask because I think the stamp came off cover this way. Doesn't it look like the cancel is unbroken?

2c: looks to me like it was cancelled, and then folded, but that and a nickel will get you onto the trolley.

After you wet the stamp, let it sit a bit, then reverse one fold at a time ... don't just stretch the accordion.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

any chance of a scan of the reverse, it looks like it could be a preprinting fold,

Go for it Dr. KGB.

Once en-flattened, we can do a level 2 diagnostic on the positionment of the cancel.

The old hinges are really wicked...they are most definitely meant to be removed by soaking only.

The patient survived. My idea that the stamp was folded after printing but before the cancel proved to be ...

wrong.

(I hope no one is surprised by this.)
