"The Hunt Collection" 1835-1875

Thank you so much for your interest in my covers. What a nice invitation to post more. When you said Hunt covers, you hit the nail on the head. I have sold some on ebay but still have 176. Many NYC & Prov. RI cancels. My great, great grandfather was a Prov. RI businessman. He had dealings with attorney George Hunt. Somehow I ended up with these covers and letters.

"The Hunt Collection" A group of mostly covers between George Hunt Esquire, and his wife Evalina Metcalf Hunt. Some stampless letters and covers ranging from 1835 until 1875.

I thought if I posted 5 at a time, every day or so, that it would be less overwhelming than in its entirety. I will look forward to any comments or opinions. I am not looking to bother folks for ID's or plating info. If you are drawn to that, any information would be appreciated. I do realize there are condition issues. I also believe most of the stamps are more common than I would like them to be.

I am interested in advice on how to sell them, ie; as single lots or as a collection?

If they have contents be sure and keep the content & cover together.

rlmstamps2012 you have 176 covers and my initial thought is that the correspondence should stay together. But you really need an expert to look through the covers and inform you what you have. Your best bet might be to sell the collection through a traditional auction house instead of piecemeal online. Perhaps contact some professional auction companies and take advice from them.

I'd enjoy seeing more of what you have for a great "show and tell", but do contact an expert for advice on dissemination.

(Of course if the collection is purchased by a dealer, it will be split up).

I agree with you there. They are all as I found them.
Some letters were taken from there covers.
Speaking of content,
One example happens to be my favorite so far.

In its original cover turned out to be a June 1874 Volume 1, No. 2 mailing of "Psyche". A Journal Started in 1874 at Harvard University by "The Cambridge Entomological Club". The club is still quite active. It appears to be in like new condition. According to the Pres. of that club, they only have one hard copy of this issue. My understanding was that it was not in its original cover. We could not come to a price, so I gave them notice and listed it on ebay for $320.00, starting price auction. It did not sell. I have a 2009 PSE Cert for this item.
The four pages are one piece of paper folded. Those photos were to large to upload.

Yikes, when you said "show and tell" you took me back
to the early 60's. Elementary School. Standing in front
of my class nervously showing off sea shells or who knows what else.
I should have brought in some of my Dad's stamps.

What is the year date on the Aug 5 Newport letter?

Thank you for being a driving force in this thread;
I will have to look at that closer in the AM. There are
a number of Newport RI.Covers. Many of you know that I am from RI.
It is no secret that I will be on vacation in January 2016.
I will be in Newport RI. for that vacation. Very quiet there
in the winter. If any of you would like a Newport RI. cancel on
anything it would be my pleasure to return to sender or ?

Sorry I could not get that information last night.
The cover you are referring to was actually a folded
letter. We scanned its contents but could not find a
date. It only referred to being a Tuesday in August.
I am posting the content so that maybe someone can
get more from it than I did.
It looks like someone was keeping score to a game on
its back side.
