Sure, try the various solutions if you wish- but if still a mildew odor..

If I can totally get rid of the mildew odor, do you think it would be ok to use?

Oh, and it was purchased from a dealer rather than an individual if that matters in terms of returning it.

As long as it was purchased on ebay, you can file an item not as described. By your comment you purchased from a dealer on ebay. If so, it makes no difference. I would email the seller, tell him you want to return due to a musty mildew smell not disclosed and see what he says.

You have 30 days to file with ebay and get your return shipping paid as well as a full refund. On the roght side of the item purchased, there is a more actions, if you click on it there is a line that says return this item, click on that and follow instructions.

Just for curiosity, who was the dealer?

Personally, I would not keep anything with a mildew, damp, musty smell. It will contaminate everything around it and is also not healty to breathe that smell.

Thanks to everyone for their great advice! I have sent a return request to the seller via ebay. Let's see what happens...

I would like to 2nd Ringo's skepticism about freezing, and add that exposing the cold pages to a warmer room at normal humidity levels will encourage condensation on the pages & stamps, which is pretty much exactly what the mold spores wait for.

I would also like to 2nd all of the odor capture schemes, including baking soda, activated carbon, the plainest clay kitty litter, etc. Adding a small fan to the system would be brilliant. Costs are low enough that you can try it more than once.

Of course, it being ebay, you're welcome to wash your hands of the lot, and let the seller add some value to their lot.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey
