A couple of tech help questions:

1. The printer I have been using to print my AlbumPro pages has gone south. I have installed a different printer, an HP Deskjet 2540 wireless, but it won't accept the AlbumPro pages. It prints word documents and test pages perfectly, but the AlbumPro pages get stuck in the print queue with the message "deleting - sent to printer" and they have to be "manually" removed. So, any ideas on why the AlbumPro pages won't print on the HP printer when they printed fine on the old LexMark Z2300?

2. Any recommendations for a page maker program to replace AlbumPro?

3. I have tried to install Stamp Page Creator, a free-ware program, on my back-up laptop computer, but cannot get it to open after installation. Does anyone use Stamp Page Creator? If so, are there any tips for correct installation. I am using a HP laptop running Vista for the Stamp Page Creator program.

Many thanks.

Don

Don,
There are several known issues with the HP 2540 driver.

Being wireless communications, the driver must hand off the print job through the wireless network protocol. Vista might be blocking this with its firewall. This is can be checked by switching the printer connection over to USB for testing. If it prints with USB but not using wifi, then your firewall needs to be configured to allow print jobs to pass. But since you say that some jobs do pass, it is probably not this issue.

The HP 2540 driver was known to have some PDF printing issues, make sure it is up-to-date. (I do not know if HP ever got around to fix the PDF printing issue.) As a work around, you can install and use a different driver my understanding is that installing and using the HP Deskjet 6980 driver with your HP 2540 printer will make it work with a PDFs.

You also might want to try seeing if the issue still exists when printing directly out of Adobe Reader vs. printing out of Internet Explorer PDF app.

The above will give you a few things to try.
Don

Marios,
I assume the fellow would still most likely want to resolve his PDF printing issue even if he uses a different album generation app. (But noted that he asked about it.)

Thank you Marios.

I've looked at your website and AlbumGen seems promising. As Don noted, I'd much rather resolve the printing issue as there would be no additional dollar outlay there. If I can't, I'll be back for the trial download.

Don:

Thank you for your thoughtful reply and the tips. Even though the Word docs and test pages print, I will try the USB connection to see if it helps, if I can find the cord. The old LexMark was a USB connection.

I will also try to get some on-site tech help to tweak the HP 2540 drivers.

I've been using AlbumPro for 10+ years now. Maybe it's time to move on.

So, I'm still interested in other recommendations for replacing AlbumPro and reading pro or con reviews of the suggested AlbumGen.

Send me a private email if reluctant to give a AlbumGen review here.

Don,

Have you tried contacting AlbumPro Support and/or HP Support?

tlmcca:

I've tried AlbumPro, but there is no response and I strongly suspect the proprietor has retired or is out of business. The program is old. To my knowledge, I have the latest upgrade (1997) and Windows XP is the last MS edition that AlbumPro will work with. I don't think the problem is with AlbumPro, but with the wireless printer.

My LexMark Z2300 printed the pages handily, but it was not wireless. I haven't contacted HP by phone, but did check the website help page and read the problem resolution file for my model. I am not alone with this model's printing problems. However, there does not seem to be a fix that is consistent for the problems cited. I have also loaded the latest driver for my model from the HP website with no resolution. The AlbumPro print jobs still get stuck in the print queue. I have not yet tried Don 51Studebaker's suggestion of downloading a different model's driver. I am getting some onsite tech help today and I will discuss that option with him.

If all fails, Does anyone know of a non-wireless printer that is sold these days?
