Hong Kong 1971
This cover created philatelic history. Each of the covers was cancelled with a specially designed one-day date stamp.
Two things made the cover design unique and of philatelic interest.
1) it was the first time ever that a specially designed Forces Souvenir Cover had been issued in Hong Kong, and
2) it was the first time ever that 'Hong Kong' had appeared on a British Forces Postal Service date stamp.
The 5000 covers were organised by the R.A.F. Hong Kong Philatelic Society, numbered and signed. They were sold at HK$5 and the profits were given to the Gurkhas Welfare Fund.
We could find no record on the internet about this item, but we have a small number of items to go with the covers such as the original letter accompanying the covers and newspaper clippings and have put it all up on our website the link being
