Apparently Scott (Amos Publishing) had another big price hike again this year.

I think they are pricing themselves out of existence.

One thing, they can't use the excuse the price of mounts jumped up because of the high price of oil. Oil dropped but the mounts still went up again!

Timm: As long as paper costs increase, ink costs increase, making plates increases, payroll costs increase, HEALTH insurance costs increase and page counts increase, the costs of ANY print catalog increases. OR, are you one of those employees in the labor forces that works for nothing?

Well, my 2˘ worth

I just got some international pages and they are absolutely awful. They are not printed but photocopies of photocopies that are so bad you can't even make out what is on some of the pages.

Absolutely awful when they charge $120.00 for a set of pages.

The quality stinks and the prices go up. I was working on a complete set of international pages but with what they are putting out, I changed my mind.

Hopefully the catalogs are better and printed, not copied.

The cost of the actual raw materials to make something like mounts has to be somewhere between minor and inconsequential. The costs are almost certainly all in manufacturing, packaging, marketing, distribution, and other overhead expenses, none of which tend to get cheaper over time.

This is really a shame. I have a Scott International Vol 1 made in 1985 and the pages are like card stock and the images are crisp and clear. I have debated replacing it, but know the quality of the newer one will not even come close.

The quality of the earlier pages I purchased were fine. I have a hunch they have redone those and actually print them. The ones they have not redone, seem to be photocopies of photocopies and are bad I have to check others as I am putting them in binders as I now have up to 1990 to put away.

another reason I am so happy I switched to using lighthouse vario stock pages for my collections rather than pre-printed pages. The cost of albums and mounts just keep rising.
