Are product reviews appropriate for stamps? As ebay attempts to become more like Amazon, "product reviews" have started appearing in the Coins category. If buyers are confused now, just wait!

The result? See

I wonder how long this will go on before ebay does something? Or maybe they don't care.

I wouldn't be surprised if ebay did this for all categories as they like one size fits all regulations no matter how stupid they may be. Such reviews should only pertain to mass produced consumer brand products.

This new ebay review implementation appears to be a potential nightmare. I read the two "reviews", one stating that the nickel reviewed from a seller was not an over date and the other review lambasting the first reviewer stating it was a genuine over date authenticated by a professional expertising agency.

If ebay doesn't fix or remove this "review" addition to listings for non-new products, I see potential litigation cases arising. If I get a ebay "review" for one of my listed stamps or covers that is not flattering, since the "review" is not based on MY listing, I can see claiming loss of sale price or non-sell result as a viable case.

Exactly what I was thinking. If it doesn't have a sku/upc code, it shouldn't get reviewed (and a catalog# doesn't count). I wouldn't mind seeing reviews on some supplies, though.

That particular two-star review now has been removed, but the problem can reoccur of course.

Think ebay would sue for bogus reviews like Amazon is supposedly doing? Dishonest sellers could have a field day uploading bogus reviews.

Oh good grief. Reviews like these do NOT belong in the collectible categories. They are utterly useless for non-commodity listings. EVERY collectible is different, thus making these sorts of reviews of no upside whatsoever.

Gah! ebay!!
