Do they still do stamps on approval? Which companies do you find best and / or can you control a little? Any approval places do FDC's?

Yes, there are still dealers who sell on approval, there are several who advertise in Linn's every week. You can find some offers here:

http://www.linns.com/en/marketplace...sifieds.html

In the drop-down box, scroll down to the approval section and hit "search" and you'll find several options. Most dealers will work with want lists and/or will try to tailor selections to your instructions. You'd need to check with individual dealers as to the kind of material they have, whether they stock FDC's, etc. I believe Mystic sells US FDC's on approval, but keep in mind their prices are the highest in the hobby, often by a lot.

Thank you Artfulhinger. I ordered their catalog and they sent me a pack on approval with it. Not real happy I didn't get to opt out of their approvals first. That is the one thing I remembered was how expensive they (Mystic) were. I will check these!

Jay:

You could also join APS and then sign up for one or more Sales Circuits. You'll receive circuit books with stamps from other APS members to peruse and purchase what you like.

Details and a list of countries/topics are on the APS website http://stamps.org/How-to-Buy

Jay, Kirk has a great suggestion! In another thread you asked about what other websites we visit. Well, if you are looking for approvals go to Stamporama. On their website they have auctions and approval books.
