Colour sample taken with my colour detection software.

Robert, to me it is not just the purple. The whole stamp, including the cancel, looks lighter.

Ya it does Peter....Maybe was near the end of a run and not worth adding more ink..I used to do this in printing class in high school...just let the ink run out, or ink started to dry out, or roller got coated from the stamp face.

Wert, blue and purple skies ARE known varieties. Three different printers were used for these stamps.

BeeSee, are these two (or more) varieties or different catalog numbers? The USPS does the same thing, probably to keep everybody confused, but Scott gives them different numbers. Does Unitrade do that too?

Unitrade does give them separate numbers Peter.

Purple Sky 925a) perf 13.3 x 13.0, 3mm tagging, Harrison paper, CBN printing

Good Morning guys,
Especially on used stamps, how can one be certainly they have one of the printing color varieties vs. a sun or otherwise faded stamp?
Don

Robert... You spelled color wrong in title!

Oh wait, you are from Canada. Isn't that the place that has two seasons (winter and August)?

We are more privileged in Vancouver then the rest of Canada. Our seasons are Rain and August

As for the stamps, the shades do not really matter when identifying. The perforation and tagging combinations are enough to identify them.

Actually Unitrade 1359 also had 3 different printers.

Hang on a minute . This is the ENGLISH language we are talking about. In England (and the rest of the UK so far) we spell it COLOUR so therefore COLOUR must be correct
