Let me first assure you we are not going out of business: we are going to continue publishing our White Ace Album pages; we will continue to sell existing ArtCraft first day covers (for US & UN issues from 1939 to date); we are continuing our monthly Bulletin mailing in which we offer collectors novel stamps and covers ; we will continue to manufacture StampMount brand stamp mounts; and we have not sold our building. (If you don't already receive our mailings, send us a request by e-mail to washpress@washpress.com. Or, for a quick look at what we have to offer, go to our web site at washpress.com).
As many businesses and other organizations do at the turn of the year, we did make a critical examination to determine which of our business activities were working for us and were sustainable. We found that making new ArtCraft first day covers was a surprisingly costly process that could be sustained only by producing substantially greater quantities than we were now selling. And, while increasing our prices would help, it would likely fail by reducing the volume sold. Our conclusion was that producing new ArtCraft first day covers had been a burden on our resources for a several years and that we could not continue to do this.
You are undoubtedly aware that a rumor on the internet is like a snowball rolling down hill—it gathers mass as it proceeds. And as Mark Twain said, "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." He probably wasn't happy to receive those reports: neither were we .
On the positive side, we are greatly encouraged by the expressions of concern for the continuing availability of our products we have received in e-mails and in internet blog posts, and we thank you for that.
