Hi guys...Need your opinion...Just looking through an old book of stamps I bought for $3.00 at my stamp club auction...The one on the right is a re-entry (yippee)...The one on the left has markings..Could this be a re-entry also..Don't want to bug Ralph Trimble right now.

I think you've got ink pulls on the left stamp. I have several like that. Can you show a magnification of the re-entry area of the right hand stamp? Thanks

They just look like ink smudges to me. A re-entry would be a very clean line that is out of place ... sometimes significantly so. I don't know if Ralph is back online yet to give you a better answer.

I was once told the error shown on the left stamp is called a hairline error... Can anyone confirm that? I have a couple like that.

A hairline crack is different. You can search on this forum for examples.

Hi Robert,

Your first stamp looks like ink pulls to me and the second just some smudges. A re-entry on a dark coloured Admiral should be quite sharp.

Marler does mention many positions of the 5c blue with marks in POSTAGE in his book. It is hard to work from your images without seeing the entire stamp to determine the Marler type.
