I don't know him (Christopher Green), but he is a member of the Canadian Stamp Dealers Association. I assume you have looked him up. If not: http://www.csdaonline.com/members/m...&num_rows=94If you want to expertise a stamp you purchase from him at high value, see if he allows returns if the certification ends up being negative. |

I do not know this seller but his listings look ok to me. I would be careful about faults, possible reperfs and/or repairs. For me, I would never drop $500-600 on a stamp without seeing the back. Having a listing stating 'small thin' immediately makes me think, 'how small'. If you contact him, he might be wiling to send you some back images. Ideally and if he was kind enough to accommodate you, have him dip the stamps and send images to get more confidence. Don |

That particular stamp doesn't pass my naked eye reperf test on the sides. They don't look straight across from each other to me but maybe I'm wrong |

Thanks to all who have replied so far. I am not ready to actually buy anything this expensive on ebay, just trying to increase my knowledge of what to look for. Also helpful are comments from other collectors on their experiences with sellers (good as well as bad). |

My opinion..... I would be weary of the right vertical perfs. The stamp is cancelled with a dual oval NY Registry cancel. The cancel on the right perfs looks to be a smudge.... the balance of the other cancel is clean. I would say "perfs added"... Would like to see back....dipped in fluid. |

I see nothing to supports the added perforations theory . I will check tomorrow on my computer but the sum of the side margin seem equal to the sum of the top and bottom. If this stamp was well centred all the margins will seems equals. Now I just have a phone so can't make measurement. But it seems some peoples here are just bad mouth a seller without proof. The seller offer a refund if not completely satisfied. |

Hummmm.. I printed the stamp enlarged to make measurement on the paper and the high of the top and bottom perforations are 10 mm each for a total of 20 mm the left 12 mm and the right 8 mm for a total of 20 mm. so the stamps perforations are exactly same ration as the engraved image. But I hope no one will believe me so I can get this stamp for $ 200 |

area66....you are missing the point. There is no reason for that cancel to be a elongated smudge on the right perfs. Just suspicious. Next....doing the srail test is useless. if the perfs were added I am sure they would have come from a lower value (probably 2c) Trans Miss.
I am not belittlng this stamp.... That is the sign of a repair. as stated in previous post....I would like to see the back dipped in fluid. |

I don't buy this perforation form a 2 cents, a 2 cents really ? as you said probably, a lot of probably in this case. The oval cancel go down to the end of the perforation, what you see as blur is another blue cancel , did you at least make an enlargement ? It's not fair to accuse someone who is not member to defend himself, the guy has over 2000 positives and 100%, as far as I know he is using his real name, the OP should not have asked if we know the seller if he has no intend to purchase. "We seek out quality material for our clients. If you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason, please contact us. Items can be returned within 30 days of receipt." sound more than fair return policy for me .... I asked the guy a photo of the back we will see. |

Here is my opinion as a novice.
I would never buy a stamp of that value on line without having the back scanned and posted on the listing as well. As a buyer, I should not have to ask for a scan.
When sellers, whoever they may be, do not take the time to scan the backs, I have an issue with and will not buy, and even more so if there is a fault stated.
In my humble opinion, as picky as it may be, I don't think the stamp is a VF but more a F/VF as it is visibly centered to the right.
Now that I have left myself wide open, let me have it. I am thick skinned |
