Anybody have a clue about this? Maybe some kind of label, cut square? Not sure? Any help would be much appreciated.

It is a returned letter stamp from 1865. I have no idea about it's catalog # or value. This one was from Augsburg, similar stamps have been in use in several other German towns.

floortrader,

I'm not sure what you are talking about. The stamp has "Augsburg" on it, NOT "Bamburg"

Chris2015, floortrader is referring to Bamberg in the link provided by SWH.
