Folks, I have been thinking about developing a new online tool which allows folks to disposition any extra, used albums or album page they might have laying around. My assumption is that you guys are like me and have a bunch of mis-matched loose pages sitting around. So my first question is; is this true? Do you folks hold on to the loose album pages from the various lots and collections you buy?
The second part of my question is, if we had an online 'trading post' for used, loose album pages (and used albums?) would you be interested in listing them for others to view?
I am imagining a online tool which allows users to log on and post their used album pages to give away, for trade, or for sale. This would only serve to connect those with the pages to those who might want them; the 'house' would not be charging any fees for the service. Those who post and those who reply would be responsible for making any payment or shipping arrangements.
If enough folks respond to this thread I will see about making it happen. Any interest? Don

I think this would be helpful Don. I know that I have hundreds of loose pages that I will (most likely) never use.
This seems like a great idea.

Don
Sounds like an excellent idea. I throw away the tatty stuff, but have a pile of the good and half-way good. I doubt if inter-Continental swopping will work, unfortunately!

Don, I do buy used collections from time to time; but I can't remember getting any mounted collections where the album pages weren't so skanky that I couldn't even think about reusing them. The only ones I've saved are these on which the previous collector made interesting notes to which I might want to refer. |

I have lots of pages I really don't want to throw away, but at the same time may be incomplete countries or sections. I know I need extra pages at times for varieties etc. Postage cost of mailing flat small amount of pages could be an issue for some, but they should go media mail. If you specialize, this could really come in handy. Good idea Don. |

Don: nice idea, but not one that I would personally use. Like GeoffHa, I discard the tatty pages, usually in my recycling bins. Better quality, surplus, pages also get recycled, and occasionally donated to the Rocky Mountain Philatelic Library. Most of the binders of the current albums that I've been "pirating" are in such bad shape that they automatically go to the recycler. Steve |

Good idea but I think the same issues as noted above apply to those I have. I do often bring albums to my local stamp club and offer for free. Your idea might be worth trying to see if there are those with clean or slightly used pages etc are available and/or interested. Recycling to collectors as opposed to trashing would be better all around. |

Great idea ,for over 20 years I accumulated lots of various stamp binders, stock books, stock pages and different types of holders both for stamps and covers . Some are like new but some are rough but still decent ,the beat up stuff goes in the trash . Not looking to sell them, but if you cover postage cost I would forward them on .Let me know if this idea takes off. |

I have several stamp album yearly supplements etc. That I acquired in trades etc. that I don't need and would like to trade, sell, or give away. I think being able to offer these to people that may need them is a good idea. But I have a question?
Why not just use the Trade section in this group to list excess album items like supplements, blank pages, binders, or entire albums?
I keep an eye on that section, hoping someone will list a Scott Minuteman album binder for trade or sale. Mine has cracked up the spine about 75% so is almost falling off now. Same thing happened to 2 of my Harris Liberty Album binders. As I said, I have some excess items myself, I just haven't gotten around to listing them here in the buy/sell/trade section yet.

I would be interested in this.. I am looking for Germany pages (including occupation and DDR) for minus world album. Not a speciality album. But I don't know how much it would cost to mail. |

Great idea, Don ... I would also be interested as I have lightly-used albums, sets of album pages and binders that I would like other collectors to enjoy! |

Ken, If I do it, yes. First, I am already incurring the hosting costs. I did not 'cheap out' of the hosting by going with a discount group like GoDaddy but rather am spending a lot more to get the performance that a good site needs. This is critical for large, secure databases. Second, the membership code/database already exists and can be re-utilized.
What benefits might it have to split it off as a standalone effort? Don |

Don - usability would be a prime benefit. A simple What do you have? What do you need? with appropriate scrolling menus or radio buttons would be simple. We should discuss this at our next lunch. Message me. |
