I have the most trouble with Argentina. Its hard even if the watermark is easily visible.

My vote goes for the British "Wildings"...the first 2 watermark types.

The 1918-1941 definitives of Brazil (Série vovo) was a big challenge for me. As I sold my Brazil collection I know I will never again try to id some of these stamps. Daniel

I definetively agree on the 'Vovo' series being the most challenging.
Twelve different watermarks/varieties - plus unwatermarked!!
Scott's poor images of these watermarks does not necesarrily help the collectors very much, so I had to make my own overview of these 'Vovo -watermarks', for quick reference. Wmk 218 "in echelon" is not included in Scott. I figured this might be useful for other collectors to----? Print it out and use it with your 'watermark' station. Here it is: Let me know if you like a pdf (free off course)

(There is additionally a large 'Coat of arms' Sheet watermark (Wmk 236) used on some high values (1934 - 2$, 5$, 10$) but I did not bother to include it on the overview. These are better identified by paper type anyway).

So - what to be on the look out for???
If you find Scott no 259 (80R green Agriculture - normally unwmk) with wmk.100 - then you have hit gold Same goes for the 'Aviation' 50R in red brown with Wmk. 100. None of these are included in Scott - so "completionists" out there might consider to update their album pages....

Here's my custom page for Vovo definitives, Casa Da Moeda.
The two boxes for the superscarce rarities will likely remain empty - hence I've included the images to remind me what to keep looking for....

Area66 - if making a list, I presume the early Hungarians should be included? Not even fully covered in Scott. They are maybe even worse than the Vove's of Brazil due to their minute differences/variations.

I vote for Brazil as the worst, but some like Mexico have been artificially simplified by the catalogs. For example, there are 4 types of the CORREOS MEXICO watermark from the 1920s-30s (I scanned this figure from an old issue of Mexicana). Scott calls them all the same. But again, they aren't quite different enough to be a big deal for most of us.
Blaamand, could you send me your pdf?
This one is available to anyone on request.

If I can get a good look at the watermark (not obscured by postmark, etc), I find Brazil not too difficult, there are just a lot of options for same denomination, same color stamps

Even with a good look I sometimes give up on Argentina 90 vs 288, same with the early crowns on Danish stamps
