Looks to be 1898, no not a rare stamp. Catalog value of $1, real world value is less.

It is from a 1897 Chinese Empire set, and not worth a whole lot. On stampworld it seems to have a more realistic price than on the ;ink above - it is not rare by any means!

1897 = Imperial Chinese post, 1898 = Chinese Imperial post.

In fact, a 1912 Waterlow Republic overprint, and still virtually worthless.
