Canada Cameo Booklet Pane Stamp FDC's (401A, 404A, 405A)

I am a little stumped here and was wondering if forum members can help me.

Unitrade lists prices for booklet pane FDC's for 401a and 404a with a FDC date of February 4, 1963 just like the sheet stamps 401 and 404. Unitrade also lists a price for booklet pane FDC's for 405a with a FDC date of October 3, 1962 just like the the sheet stamp 405. Unitrade does not list FDC's for other such booklet panes.

Does anyone know if this is correct or not since other sources such as the "Standard Catalogue of Canadian Booklet Stamps" by Bill McCann, "The Early Elizabethan Era 1952-1972", Part I, by Michael Milos, "1952-53 Karsh 1954-62 Wilding 1962-66 Cameo Definitives" by D. Robin Harris have May 15, 1963 / May 1963 as the issue date for these booklet panes.

Jogil, why not go directly to the source? Robin Harris has said several times that he'd answer serious questions from anyone!

He is looking into it since I did ask him by email. I have already also asked the Canadian FDC website and they said they don't have any of these listed on their website. I am also looking for other opinions as well since it may need some philatelic consensus. I am also trying to get different opinions on it because I enjoy reading about it too.

I was hoping to get some more input from SCF members on this. I am currently going with the May 15, 1963 date as being the correct one since I need this information for something I am writing on in which I need to change this date in it.

at $17.50.
Seems kind of high to me, unless you pay with
US dollars
This is another example of catalogue prices
being way out of touch with reality.

Is there any demand at all out there for Canadian
First Day Covers?

lithograving: Do these booklet panes really exist as FDC's? Other booklet panes don't seem to be listed as FDC's. I have seen full booklet panes on regular covers. The Canadian Catalogue of Official First Day Covers is very popular with a new edition recently. Also, BNAPS FDC study group is very popular too.

I have no idea if any exist.
I certainly don't have any.

As far Canadian FDCs are concerned, I collected beginning
sixties to mid eighties.
The cameo definitives were actually one of the first FDCs I
serviced. If you're old enough you would remember
that one first had to buy the cacheted covers,
(I usually bought Rosecraft from the Simpsons DT store)
got a money order from the Receiver General of Canada at a PO,
sent it away to the Ottawa Philatelic Center and waited anxiously
hoping that when they arrived they weren't torn, bent or written on
by the mailman.
Since I wanted at least one FDC with a plate block the requirement
was that you had to buy at least 10 or 20 stamps for the lowest values
to get one PB. For the high values you only had to pay for
four.
So I always got 5 or six covers just to use up all stamps.

And wish I had spent my money on something (anything) else.

I never ever bother with them now, I just have no interest
in that stuff anymore.

jogil, I checked all my old catlogues for any listings of
cameo booklet First Day Covers.

Neither the 1978 or 1986 Canada Specialized nor
Canada/BNA Postage Stamp Catalogue 7th Edition (1976)
by Tom McAlpin, Will Ganley, nor the 1976 Canadian First Day
Cover Catalogue by Will Gandley show
a price for FDC booklets.
The 1984 Lyman Standard Catalogue of Canada -BNA Postage Stamps
also does not list Cameo booklet FDC prices.

Here is the page from the Lymans, as you can see it
only shows mint prices.

Yes twitch that's the reality, too much stuff out there
and nobody wants it.
Pity that one more aspect of stamp collecting seems
to be on the verge of extinction.
It was very popular at one time, then again so was
collecting United Nations, the Vatican, Plate Blocks etc etc.

Naturally there are exceptions as you noted.

Interestingly, the Scott Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps 1988 by The Unitrade Press, which is the oldest Scott/Unitrade catalogue that I have, has 401a FDC priced at 17.50, 404a FDC priced at 17.50 and 405a FDC priced at 22.50 which are still the same exact prices as found in the Unitrade Canada Specialized Catalogue 2016 from around 28 years later.

Also, the dates of February 4, 1963 (401a, 404a, BK53) and October 3, 1962 (405a, BK52) differ from the May 15, 1963 date given by philatelic specialists Robin Harris in "1952-53 Karsh 1954-62 Wilding 1962-66 Cameo Definitives", Bill McCann in the "Standard Catalogue of Canadian Booklet Stamps"and Michael Milos in "The Early Elizabethan Era 1952-1972" (Part I) all of which do not list any FDC's for them.

Does anyone know Michael Milos' new current email address? It used to be (mmilos@vaxxine.com) but it no longer works.

Unfortunately that is what happens when too many dealers, only interested in making a fast buck, jump on a band wagon. That coupled with the huge number of new issues.

I would still buy commercially used FDCs of the definitives if I could find them.

When I read that the Philatelic Centre in Ottawa would
not provide first day cover service for the upcoming
unscheduled rate increase 6c orange domestic rate definitive
I went to a PO during my lunch hour on
November 1, 1968, got some new stamps and mailed
the covers to my address using peelable
address labels.

I could very well make these totally " Commercial"
by adding an address and return address.
