I do not have a clue as to the source of this item. Just got it and I am stumped. Tried Cape of Good Hope through Higgins and Gage without success. Maybe someone else knows of its source?
I think it is a nice picture, but does not have anything to do with stamps! However, it is very hard to tell as the picture is way too small and out of focus when it is enlarged. Maybe you can post a better scan?
Can't tell from the image, but this kind of looks like an inked embossing. Inked embossing have been impressed on revenue documents and used by governments to indicate that fees have been paid, but this image doesn't include any other markings to support this idea. It may just be someone's personal impressed image to indicate ownership of stationery, or a book.
