Today I went to list some lots on ebay and found myself presented with their new listing page. For the most part I found it an inprovement, but for some reason I couldn't get the Change Category - Browse function to work properly. I'd get as far as Stamps - US and then it wouldsn't bring up the lower subcategories. I had to resort to using the search.

Try the Home and Hobby edition or a free trial of the SixBit eCommerce software. I don't normally use the ebay SYI form. It is not user friendly and the Revise Item page dumps the user into no mans land requiring a new search to get back to the revised listing. Since bugs of this type have remained in the site for years, why would anyone expect ebay to debug or test new software. They appear to rely on customer driven debugging. Oops, I forgot! There is no good way to notify ebay of bugs. Such discussions are outside the vocabulary of their untrained customer support representatives.

I listed a couple items this week and find I can no longer choose my own categories. You have to enter a description of what you are selling and the program chooses them for you. On the other hand, loading pics is a lot faster and easier. Not a big seller so not complaining for now.

You Can choose categories once a title is typed in. I am sure this is less efficient than the old SYI form. However, once past the title, it is possible to browse for a category. This is just one more hassle added to an already inefficient and user unfriendly web site. However, the big issue is that slowly loading ads block progress until they are rendered. I would speculate that potential buyers can look at only half as many items as in the past. Maybe ebay believes that fewer listins will be OK because no one will be able to view some of them anyway.

I received an email from ebay yesterday about the new listing page on ebay. There was a link to opt out of it. I never use the online listing form - haven't even seen it's format since 1999. I still use a combination of Turbo Lister and a word processing program to create listings with minimal hassle. It works for me and no monthly fees.

Clark mentioned the issue with ads slowing down ebay. There's a number of third party programs like Sixbit and others to list on ebay. Are there third party programs that can be used to view material on ebay and escape the ads? It would be nice for buyers to have such a program than can comb through ebay and pulling all the listings based on a set of search criteria.

I hate the slow loading ads. For a while I was blocking them by adding the ad servers into the browser list of blocked sites. But of course that didn't cover all of the constantly changing servers so I finally disabled the Flash plugin. This effectively kills the slow loading ads but I end up selectively re-enabling Flash when needed on certain sites.
