Guide Dot, Or Not..?

Hi guys..Just wondering if any one else has a Scott 183 to check to see if they have a normal guide dot in the bottom left corners..Thanks.

I am not aware of any persistent guide dots at the corner of this issue. If you do a check on ebay, you can see many copies without this dot. Your copy seems to have a number of printing anomalies. I notice several other dots in the top left margin plus a noticeable "donut" in the left value tablet.

I would guess that the dot in the bottom corner is just another of these printing varieties.

Yes it is odd...The dot is where you would expect a guide dot to be...Interesting.

If it was a regular stamp as opposed to a coil stamp, I would say that it likely comes from a position at the edges of the sheet where a guide dot is needed, such as the lower left corner (position 91). Other places where the guide dot is needed is near the imprint since the imprint is added to the sheet and requires lining up with the rest of the images.

With a coil stamp, I'm not sure why a Guide dot may be needed; possibly at the beginning of the strip? to line up the first image.

Jimjung, correct me if I am wrong, but these stamps were printed on a roll of paper? The US coils were printed on a web several stamps high depending on the press and used guide dots.

No guide dot in lower left corner on my copy, but I did see a small horizontal line hidden in the left part of the design of my stamp, to the right of the first S in Postes.

I have checked the 5 of these that I have and no red dots where you have yours. I did notice that the paper is really red on this issue isn't it?
Also, while checking I noticed the cancel on this one and liked the look of it but then noticed the year of the cancel. 1956! Isn't that like 25 years after the stamp was issued? Interesting.

I was thinking more of the plate rather than the paper. As I said, I don't know much about how the coils were printed. Just wondering where the need for guide dots on the plate is, when coils are printed.
