Thanks KGB. I am aware of those sites and I know this stamp is probably a forgery. The roulettes are forged a lot and I suspect that the margins are too big for the stamp to be genuine but am hoping someone more knowledge will take a look. I just got this stamp in a nice collection purchased at auction that contained some other fairly valuable stamps... Just hoping. |

I do need an ID. Or at least confirm my ID. If it is genuine, I would ID as 1862 roulette 7 but I don't know much about roulettes. I would also like an opinion on if it is genuine. |

Also KGB, I really appreciate your response. I don't post a lot but I do lurk a lot and you are always one of the first to help... |

looks OK, the roulette 7's were produced in Auckland.
It looks like the Pale Blue which would make it s.g. 51. Pity that it is cut into at the base even though the other margins are large. It appears to be used at a small office with a manuscript cancel and later cancelled with a barred numeral later.
It would need either a Royal London or a PSNZ certificate to be accepted.

I don't have a recent SG catalog. What is a #51 worth? I'm wondering if this stamp is worth sending off for a cert. |

Thanks again KGB but I don't see SG #51 on that list. What am I missing? |

It's a fascinating site, but I think it's a simplified version of SG, as the use of equivalent SG numbers suggests. |

Sorry if I am wrong with my ID. I thought the 2d on this page was your stamp. It goes here for 36 dollars (AUS?) used. |

KGB the stamp illustrated is my stamp. Pagoda suggested that it may be a SG #51. The only SG catalog I have is from 1979 and the #51 in that catalog is valued at 200 pounds in used condition. The stamp you are referring to is the perf variety. Mine is rouletted. Mine is damaged, but if it is genuine, I would think it is worth much more than 36 dollars. |

Oh, I see now. SG would give more detail, wouldn't it? Good luck with your valuation. Apparently these stamps hold their value even when the condition of the stamp is less than what one would generally expect. |
