Is this fake? I can't find references to these postmarks. One Dumfries district the other 2d pp sheet Scotland. Its on a piece supposed to be 1840. Note crowned embossed one pound 15 shillings. Has anyone seen these before and can someone tell me if they are legit or not? Thanks

I think that's "Pr." (i.e. printed) sheet.

As KGB mentions, these are revenue/ fiscal... top is an Impressed Duty Stamp. Could be a Will, Deed of some kind, land transaction type of thing. Second is a tax handstamp of 2d per sheet... these things could go to 30 plus pages occasionally. Third is the District where the document/s were lodged and tax paid.

Thanks all for the help they do seem to be a Duty Stamp & handstamps from a deed document or legal document that makes sense as to why I haven't seen them before. Another item to start cheap and see if anyone wants them.

Just looking at it I'd say it's a legal document. The format was / is standard in the Empire / Commonwealth.

There is a whole area of collecting of revenue stamps. They start with blind embossings of the paper such as the one shown here and then go into colored embossings and all kinds of postage stamp like stamps but with the appropriate wording. Also, there have times in some countries where the same stamps can be used for either postage or revenue purposes. Often the best way to tell the difference in such cases is when they were used for revenue purposes they typically had manuscript cancellations, though sometimes they had straightline date cancels and such. If you look at some older British Empire stamps you will see some that say "postage and revenue" in their designs such as this one:
