We're told that this photograph will be used as the basis for a commemorative stamp.

That photos is the basis for the miniature sheet... see below. A further six stamps are to be issued regarding the queen's family and her "work"... ("work"? As my grandmothers says to people who say the queen looks good for her age... "so would I if I never washed dishes in my life" )

Very lovely photo.

I also understand that booklets will be issued with stamps comprised of the individual head shots (same as the SS?) derived from the family photo, plus the obligatory Machins to help boost sales
.

This new photo is a great improvement over an antecedent:

The strange thing about British monarchs is they don't always know who they are...
The black and white photo shows one queen and three future kings.
Queen Victoria of the House of Hanover.
Her son was king Edward VII of the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
His son was king George V also of the House Of Saxe-coburg-Gotha but changed it to the House of Windsor in 1917 as it sounded too German.
His son was Edward VIII (abdicated 1936) also of the House of Windsor.

Edward's niece is the current queen Elizabeth who married Prince Philip who was born Philippos Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburk but changed his name to Philip Mountbatten when he became British in 1947... he took a form of his mother's name of Battenberg but as it, too, sounded too German, it was changed to Mountbatten. In theory there should have been a new royal House called either the House of Glucksburg or House of Mountbatten but the law was changed so that the Windsor name continued... much to the displeasure of Prince Phil who complained that "I am the only man in the country not allowed to give his name to his own children."

No. The first stamp with a royal spouse is the George VI coronation issue. There were essay/samples for a Prince Albert stamp, but no stamps were actually issued -

KGB, I really like that stamp. From what I gather Queen Alexxandra was a hard working, charitable, a patriot, well liked and to my eyes an attractive woman.
