Scott and Stanley Gibbons don't mention anything, but these stamps are slightly different (Scott 110, SG 118). Firstly, there is a slight color difference. Note that Stamp on left has nasty crease in the top, but I was more interested in the bottom 2c box. Left Example with straight bottom 2 and normal c. Right Example with chamfered bottom 2 and hooked c. Does Yvert mention a difference? Maybe several different dies over the 11 years it was issued?

Partime, this is a nice spot! The truncated corner on the "2" may be due to the printing offset (look at the main design which is also offset) but there are sneaky differences in both the "2" and the "c". It looks like a second die but I don't have Yvert or Michel to cover these issues. SG as usual is useless. |

Yvert make lovely catalogues, but the detail is often no greater than my ancient SG France and Colonies catalogue. Presumably Spink will produce more Maury catalogues in the near future. |

Thanks for the input everyone. Since these are very common stamps, I'll have to graze at the 10 cent table at the next stamp bourse and see if I can pick up a few more examples. If anyone else has an example, can you post a close-up so that we can guess what normal is for this one? |

Partime, http://stampworld.com shows it with the straight bottom and I believe the normal 'c' but that one is hard to tell. According to something I read these stamps were printed over a period of almost ten years, so all this should be no surprise. Also, I checked ebay and Delcampe. Out of some 25 sets up for sale I found no chamfered bottom - they are all straight. I found no used ones - those must be rare. And there are two types - one with the vignette printed first and one with the vignette printed last. Peter |

I think that used copies are exceedingly rare, and probably more so actually on cover. Doesn't make much sense for something issued over so many years, but I guess there was a good market for stamp collectors in that time period.
I'll have to more carefully look for the two different printing orders noted by Peter. |

The Maury DOM-TOM 2009 edition does not list this as a variety, so more likely just a transient inking issue rather than a constant variety. |

Bumping this older thread. I just picked up several French Guiana covers. None are of the 2 cent Carib Archer, but one does have the 25 cent archer, along with an airmail stamp. Scott 117 and C6. Nothing unusual about these two, though. Scott lists these items as less than $1 each. However, on cover, the C6 is listed at $72.50. I have other covers which have the following stamp on them. I cannot locate in my Scott's. Does anyone know where to find this one? Thanks. |

Thanks so much, Rod and Gmot. I overlooked that entry about 20 times, but there it is! |

Don't be hard on yourself Steve, I knew I had it in my collection, but dashed if I could find it too. Then I twigged, it was a common design. That led me to it.
