I came across this in my Great Grandfathers collection. It is not listed as an overprint. Is it possibly an early precancel.

When Mauritius changed its currency in the 1880's (switching to cents and rupees), it invalidated all unsold stamps with the old currency by stamping them cancelled. There is no price premium for these cancelled stamps and I believe they are valued in catalogs as used stamps.

Gibbons says that the remaindered earlier issues are about equal to the used prices. Once you hit the 1876 and 1877 issues, the values can drop off precipitously. (The 1877 half-d-on-10d rose, for instance, is about 5% of the used price, give or take.)
