Please help me figure this out. I can't read French. I think it was mailed in 1910. Am I reading the postmark correctly? So was this card mailed in France? This part of Africa would have been Middle Congo in 1910 and stamps of that country would have been appropriate.

I'd say mailed in a French Possession - Christmas wishes. Madame G. somebody, Liberty Place. Could be 1910. You need to blow up the whole postmark to see if there is another possibility. |

Makes sense. The address is also in Biarritz.
Postcard looks like a colonial series, although more reminiscent of gauchos going after rhea than Central African ostrich hunting. It was probably drawn by someone who'd never travelled further abroad than Paris... |

I can see the Biaritz now. Thanks for that. What is the rest of the wording in the postmark? |

Not sure about the date but the lower part is "Basses Pyrenées", the département in which Biarritz lies. |

Yep - its 1910. Should be DD MM/YY - so 23 Dec 1910.
Interesting it states Central Africa as I thought ostriches were mainly in South Africa. Central Africa can include Malawi but I've not heard of the them there either.

Ostriches lived as far north as Arabia before being hunted out of existence. In one of Philby's Arabian travel books, he mentions finding a venerable ostrich egg! |

The postcard was sold by a French chocolate company- Chocolat-Louit. Google the name and one will see they had all sorts of cards they used to advertise their name. |
