I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of early Austrian Empire cancellations. Am I correct in assuming that this italicized cancel is from Graz? Also, a general question regarding cancel information for Austria...is there any other source available other than the apparently pricey Handbook of Austria and Lombardy-Venetia Cancellations on the Postage Stamp Issues 1850-1864 by Mueller? Michel has some stuff in their specialized catalogue, but it obviously doesn't cover everything and my German isn't up to snuff. TIA.

The spelling at this time was 'Gratz,' if that's what you're first asking.

The name escapes me--because I'm a dunderhead--but we have a member here who is an expert on Austrian postmarks and who collects them. I'll try hard to remember who he is, but he may chime in on his own when he sees your topic.

Thought it would be easy, but like most things with this hobby, there are many layers.
