Saint Patrick's Day is near..........aaahhh one of my favorite holidays. I am Irish you know.

I currently have no Irish stamps and I just discovered there are stamps commemorating Saint Patrick's Day every year from Ireland. Does anybody know what was the first year this began?

I just won an auction for 60 Irish stamps on ebay so I can't wait. Does anybody have any Saint Patrick Day stamps from any country they would like to display here. Please let me know what's out there so I can get a feel for what to look for. Any Irish stamps will do too.

I am also looking for an avatar and I am thinking to go green with irish. Any stamp pictures or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time
Luck of the Irish to all
Cynthia

It looks as if Ireland issued its first St. Patrick stamps in 1937, but on September 8th, not on St. Paddy's Day. They are Scott 96-98.

In 1961 they issued another set of three commemorating the 1,500 anniversary of his death. They are Scott 179-181 issued on September 25th.

Hey Cynthia

I'll check my stash.

I don't have many Irish stamps but I'm certain I have a few doubles.

P.S. My Husband was born March 17th and I always make him a green cake

To add to my previous post...

St. Patrick stamps aren't published every year, though Ireland did produce St. Patrick Day covers, similar to first day covers with cachets, but using current definitive issues. I have three of these that came in an auction lot a while ago, dated March 17, 1976, 1977, and 1978. I'll try to remember to get scans when I'm on the computer with the scanner.

With St. Patrick's Day coming, it could be a good time to get them up on ebay. )

Hi Cynthia

On St Patrick's day I plan on being the greenest person at a party I'm attending. The person wearing the most green Item's win. I'll make sure to get a picture and forward it to you.

Also I have started a small stash of Irish stamps for you I'm still sorting so hopefully I'll find more. Haven't come accross any St pat's ones yet thought.

Dianne

Cynthia, these are the only green Irish stamps I have. Do you like any of these for an avatar? If so, let me know and I will try to get a better pic on a black background.

My favourite is the first one.

Steve
