Hi guys, While doing my #25 study, I found this one with what look to be a ''strands of hair'' ... Well there is many other weird things in the stamp such as doubling looking like a re entry here and there and a very weird shape of the UR number 3. Any opinion? Also , I am a bit colors blinds and have very hard time with shades, so can you guys confirm me the ''strand of hair'' is the same color? Picture down here (Left the ''says stamp'' and right a Normal one. Here the ''stand of hair'' Jimi

Jimi, the strand of hair could very well be just that. But, I find more often that it is a piece of wood fiber in the paper. Reason I say that is because I have several examples of hairs on the stamp and they usually are dark ( i.e. not the same color as the stamp's ink ). A sliver of wood fiber would soak up some of the ink and tend to be the same color as the stamp.

I'm not aware of any SC25 with a strand of hair variety, so Peter4522 could be correct, but I'm certainly not an expert on these early stamps. |

Thx for spoting me that one Coriante and thx for helping me about the color of the Strand of hair. I have very hard time with shade this is why i'm in re-entry and not color shade hehehe. As we seen, both re-entry I found on 25 were ''twisted re entry'' I think this one is not different As you spotted the Lower left corner, I did check with UR corner and we have a good conclusion, it is a twister re-entry same as others; toward clockwise. as well as the Clear doubling in T of ''POSTAGE'' showing twisting in the same direction and it could explain the weird shaper of the UR number 3 I think I have a new winner here, now time to found another copy! Re-entry on Large queen 25 are pretty are to spot due to the twisting way and stamp color, re-entry seem to merge into the stamp design making them very hard to spot. But I found 2 different, maybe a 3rd here and I won't stop till I found them all! Jimi |

Wert, Think you can make a better close up of oval around queen? It is hard to see if the circle is doubled or not. Here a close up of one of my normal copy, and they look pretty much the same. Jimi |

Coriandre, I just found the same re-entry as your but your copy is cleaner because mine having a killer cancel But it is on rare Soft White blotting paper! Here the new beauty A closer look of the many re-entry on this stamp Classic UR corner line mergin in UR number 3 Left side of TH of THREE Bottom of R of THREE (there is maybe more re-entry in EE but killer cancel make it hard to see) And finally, The LR doubling ''like a hook'', doubling in CENTS and a small little doubling in lower border frame there is seem to have doubling in POSTAGE too but again, because of the killer cancel, it is harde to see. We can notice it in ''S'' of POSTAGE Enjoy :) Jimi |

Yes, that is the same re-entry. The sure sign is the double hook on the bottom right corner |

The "Strand of Hair" looks like a plate scratch to me. It is not listed in Duckworth's so likely appeared for a short time only - nice find. There are alot of various varieties that I have found on the 3c LQ, some I have posted on this site. A very interesting stamp in that regard and great for this kind of research and collecting joy. I also agree with the re-entry in the lower right corner. Here are a couple of scans of Duckworth's book showing his description and drawings on some of the re-entries that he has found on the 3c Large Queen. By the way he is talking, he seems to think there are other re-entries on this stamp that are still unfound. Sorry, the drawing scan seems to always tilt to the right even though it is upright on my PC. |

It will appear in the next Dot and Scratch Newsletter here the link to the topic : https://goscf.com/t/49544So you are thinking about a plate scratch? I didn't tough about that, so time to find another copy! Jimi |

Gilles, That is a well known plate flaw known as the "shaving nick" variety. See write-up at flyspecker.com.
