Hello all,

I dont collect stamps from France but friend of mine asked me to check one for him.
Its French stamp with coat of arms and ship but one is without flag. He told me that he couldnt find it in any catalog.
So hes asking for value, is stamp genuine and catalog reference if possible, but any information on these stamps would be appreciated.

I think you need a French catalog for this one. Looking at the two stamps they are from two different printings. These are from a long running series in the sixties, depicting the arms of French cities.

You can see a small part of a flag on the right stamp, so perhaps just a case of over inking of the red?

Thanks for reply.

@Petert4522

I dont have French catalog. If anyone here has one it would be great. Maybe collectors from France

@Jenny2U

Maybe. I can also see red print slightly moved to the left. Would that over inking count as error ?

mvojnovic millions of these stamps were issued for everyday use and quality control wasn't a top priority during this period. Over inking or slight variation in ink location does not count as an error. An error would be something like a stamp that was completely missing the red ink.

It most surely is overinking, but a very neat variety nonetheless. I would keep it and note as such. Thanks for posting!

If you really want to have fun with this issue, look at the "rope ties" on each side ... the circles. I have several of these stamps, and each seems to have a different look.

The group:

And individuals, showing various dots above, below, and on the right set and left set of circles. All inking issues, I am sure:

I thought this one was particularly interesting though. If you look at the very bottom, there is a doubling, kiss, or slip print of the lower border. Neat.

Neither Maury nor Yvert mention such varieties.

Ok thanks guys.

So nothing of significant value ?
Since these printing ink errors are common.
He asked me to check it out because he though it might be valuable.
