Re-Entry? Over Ink? Both?

Hi again gentlemans and please be kind with me about my poor English, I will try to explain myself as clear as possible.

From my experience after studying #25 for re-entry I now understand why there is almost nothing about them; They are VERY hard to spot due to the way the color merge together.

Now the reason of this post is the new #25 I found here.

Here is the on I found, ok we can discuse about the possibility of a Slip print or over inked, there is no doubt about it , but after watching the stamp for hours, I m now no more sure it is only a Slip print.

From a close up, it is showing the same kind of doubling, but due to the over ink or slip print, it is pretty confusing;



















so maybe your expert eyes could help me on that one!

Thx Mike, yes I know, the first picture on top were taken from that newsletter. I m just wondering if I can claim a major re-entry and I needed expert opinion about it :)

Darth your copy is very hard to tell for sure if it is a re-entry. You need a nice crisp printing and yours is not. I can not see any true re-entry in your copy. It is too blurry to make a definitive call on if it is a re-entry. I think your stamp may be a slip print or possibly over inking as there are no clearly doubled lines in my opinion.

Mike, first a question. I looked up Dots and Scratches and I am impressed. Wished we had something like that for US stamps. I noticed the editors name is Michael. Is that a coincidence or.....? And my last question. Does Wert know about this?

Hi Peter, No coincidence. Note the image of #32 under my nickname Watermark and read the introduction in Dots and Scratches #1. Yes I wish there was an equivalent in US stamps also. I have a 10-cent Colombian Exhibition re-entry that I can not identify and Scott Catalog is no help although they list a re-entry with no description. Would sure like to know if it is the one they list. Wert knows although he may have just found out I am an editor....

Ok thx Mike, I will let it on the side and claim it over inked/slip print unless I find another copy that is exactly the same.

Thanks for answering Watermark. I have an extensive collection of Transportation Coils, and my favorites are the ones printed on the old Cottrell presses. I have a bunch of stamps showing what we call a "Chill roller doubling".
Is that anything like a double transfer or like a re-entry? They sure look like it!

Hi Peter, I am not familiar with the way the Cottrell presses work so I am not certain if these would be re--entries. I deal with the old flat steal plate printed stamp and some rotary press stamps done wit steel plates. The old engraved stamp images that were rocked into the plate using a transfer roll and pressed into the plates. The stamp could then be printed by flat plate presses or rotary presses. Re-entries were produced by double strikes of the transfer roll against the plates in initial production or during repairs to the plate. A misplaced entry could also occur if the transfer roll was dropped on the plate at the wrong time causing a misplaced impression. This is somewhat simplified but gives you an idea of what I look for as my specialty.

I'm leaning more towards a re-entry than a slip print on this one even if it is over inked. Worth sending some scans to R Trimble to get his opinion
