I just received my renewal notice for Linn's Stamp News and there appears to be an option to pay extra to have the magazine delivered with opaque poly wrap bags "if privacy is a concern". Given that the typical cover of such magazine is rather innocuous and the content quite noncontroversial, I am curious as to why some folks would prefer the extra step for privacy. My wife isn't thrilled with my increasing obsession with stamp collecting, but I suspect that her reaction would be even more acute if magazines started arriving in opaque poly wrap bags. She'd rip them open to see what secretive stuff I was getting before I would even have a chance to do so.
I get the monthly issue and I've only gotten it in an opaque poly bag, and I've never paid extra for it. I suppose someone might want it like this if they don't want their postman or nosy neighbors knowing they collect stamps. Some collections can be quite valuable and collectors might want to keep their collecting habits on the hush-hush just to be on the safe side.
Come to think of it, I also get the monthly magazine in the wrapper, although I never requested it or paid for it. It looks like the extra charge is for the weekly rag which I also subscribe to.
