Hi Guys, I was wondering what during the process could have made the UR 3 look this way? If it was something like slip print, the whole stamp would have been affected the same way right? The number 3 look... very weird, even retarded while the rest of stamp look normal. Also we can notice the strange way the number 3 is surrounded And I also notice, a DOT under H ! Maybe a new DOT variante variety? Jimi

You're talking about the indenture on the bottom loop? Probably ink missing on the plate during printing. But I should wait and give Wert his turn first. Is that a guide dot on the bottom, under the H of three?

Thx for reply Peter, I m talking about the weird goofy bottom shape of the Number 3 itself and yes also about the indenture bottom loop and also in top of 3 The guide dot is in LF corner The other dot is just not suppose to be there! Jimi |

Jimi, that was the dot I meant. Another senior moment I am afraid.

I think if you look closer at the bottom of the 3, you will see that it is the cancellation giving it that odd look. Maybe try some color contrast to see if it jumps out? |

I'm also thinking that the cancel is what causes the upper 3 to look like this. Over inking in the area would also cause this. For the dots, it could be from over inking also.....some minuscule drops fell on the bottom of the stamp. Good eye Jimi ! Keep them coming ! |

I did some contrast setting, removed the cancel.. and here the result It pretty much look like a re-entry to me now Look at the bottom of the 3, we clearly see the doubling So it may explain the weird shape in O of postage Jimi |

Well Robert, I m just obsessed by the #25 heh The reason why I did think about a re-entry and why everything was pointing toward it, is that all Proved Strong re-entry I currently have (about 10 of them on 3 different position) have all the same stair shape in the loop around 3, here an exemple of 2 different position and the one in this topic have the same shape, plus the pretty sure doubling in O and the doubling of the tail of 3 make it even more pointing toward a re-entry. Remember, there is a lot of re-entry on this stamp since all stamps were printed from only 2 Soft steel plate and only fiew of them (must visible one) have been tagged. The re-entry on this stamp is a real challenge since the ink is almost always merging with the ink of the normal design. Since I m young and have good eyes, I think it a very good challenge for me :) I want to tag the substile one. I don't think I try too ''hard'' since if no one would have try ''hard'' like I do, no re-entry at all would have been discovered :) Jimi |

Well it seems Wert have removed his comment... so my reply make no sense, just to make things clear, Wert was wondering if I wasn't trying too hard to find re-entry, well I did reply with the above post.

I tend to agree with the deleted comment. You are truly going to the extreme with your flyspecking routines ... finding items that many would say are just overinking, plate wear, ink pulls, etc. But even saying this, I look forward to some other examples. |
