Quote: It takes time to sort out and organize what you have.
It takes time to write up descriptions.
It takes time to take photographs.
It takes time to load all this onto various market places.
It take time to pack the stamp(s) for mailing.
It takes time to build up a reputation for having interesting/quality material.
And, in the end, no mater how careful you are at what you buy, not everything sells.
If you have all that time to invest in selling your stamps, you will trade time for a larger cash return. Or you can sell it to a dealer, who will invest that time, and get more for the stamps than he/she paid you.
If you spend all Are we honest on this forum or do we have stamp club/dealer vs seller here? Yes,many stamp dealers say some of this and more when try to get cheap stamps for good sales on ebay. As seller, dealer or whatever I can quote every statement here and describe why is wrong. Every stamps seller/buyer was burned once, twice or more times. I did too. I"m telling You things that none stamps dealer would. |

I'm not a dealer but it's seem the OP is doing the worst thing for himself :
If someone come to me and say, "I don't know how much the value...". I will give him a very safe reply "I can't give you more than $ 100 because we don't know the value, will take me time to evaluate it.... "
Should not take a long time to make a list of at least the higher value

Hey, from croatia!
I will not respond to you by your name on this site.
That name you chose to use has been taken. Many from any background would find it offensive! What is up with your devil emoticon use.
You are not the Pope!! |

I do not understand for what reason you can not argue with arguments. It would be interesting if you could give examples of resellers who are honest and pay decent money when they see a victim selling stamps. Guess 90 % of that material is sold on ebay. But could agree that honestly is a rare thing when stamp dealers are buying stamps from amateurs. One story when buying that stamps, and other story when selling the same stamps. Its really interesting to be there at that 2 moments. Cheers,
/s/ ikeyPikey Attack ad hominem, without any clear reason. But, I agree that there are many hundreds people here who know more about stamps than me. |

Quote: I wonder how a guy in Croatia will know better than anyone the market in US for US stamps It can be generalised. Someone wrote it good, when dealer buy something he earn the money, not when reselling. Resellers in US are tooth fairies? They like little profit and decent paying stuff they sale? My apologies then. |

Quote: That name you chose to use has been taken. Forum system would alert me if that was a true. It was free name, not taken. Quote: Many from any background would find it offensive! Many people find squirrels offensive. I guess they take medicines because of that. Quote: What is up with your devil emoticon use. ? I dont create emoticons on internet forums. You should write to Snitz forums if think that some emoticon on their forum hurt You feelings. But would advice to press little X sign in the right upper corner of Your screen. Its more effective. But please dont spam this really interesting topic with things that dont have anything about it. |

rimstamps2012: if a pro wrestler a few years ago can call himself The Pope, then certainly the title is free to use. |

My apologies to all, for going off topic on this interesting thread.
Ten or so years ago, I started to look at my dad's stamps. He was legally blind and gave me cart blanch. We had a very reputable local dealer come in and have a look. We had books, boxes, drawers all out in our dining room. He came in and had a look about. He did give us an offer that I was not at all happy with. I had been to Siegel's Auction web site and recognized some stamps, thought I might be a philanthropist, not to be confused with a philatelist. We did not accept the offer from the dealer. Instead I decided to send in approx. eighty examples to be certified. Big mistake!
My thanks is to SCF! Since last November until now we have learned plenty. Patty and I have looked at so many stamps that they are starting to look good in our dreams! Since last year, I have bought many more stamps than I have sold. I do find joy in learning about them.
We have spent thousands of hours. It has become something that we do together.
If I had to guess, we won not selling out to the dealer!
Best regards to all! |
