I'm afraid I know little about the uniforms of specific periods. The Hussars where the heavy cavalry, wearing armour for protection, but with the advent of guns, armour became irrelevant & a new type of lighter cavalry, the Uhlans, was introduced. I don't know whether the Uhlan tradition was introduced into Napoleons' Grand Armee, but the cavalry man in the essay is of the Uhlan type.
A Uhlan is illustrated on one of the first unified Polish stamps from 1919. Scott 92 in Marks for the North, & Scott 120 in Kreuzer for the South. Note the similar hats/helmet
