I may be in NYC in early October and see that the ASDA is having a fall show at the Hilton Oct 6-9. Is anybody familiar with this show - is it mainly for dealers or are there activities geared towards collectors? How many dealers are typically represented? Etc. There's some info on the ASDA website, but not a lot at this stage it looks like.
Anybody's experience with this show that they would like to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any info.

The ASDA shows are for buying & selling; if memory serves, the last one had no exhibits, for example. Cheers, |

I no longer live in the NYC area, but when I did I went to nearly every ASDA show. They were basically bourses, usually with a few exhibits. It drew dealers from further away than most local bourses. Definitely oriented towards selling to collectors. Subway Stamp Show usually had a large booth, where I could browse though their philatelic literature and supplies.
I have heard that they no longer have any exhibits and rarely get dealers from Europe anymore. But probably still worth attending. The ASDA website does not seem to have a list of dealers who are coming, so it is hard to tell for sure. |

The preceding posts are correct. Expect a bourse of about 20 dealers, plus a couple of specialty societies and the USPS. The bourse room usually is full and in the mornings all seats may be full for some dealers. Worldwide material is available in all price ranges. Dealers are mainly from the eastern US. It's in a large midtown hotel one level above street level with subway lines within 1-2 blocks and plenty of places to eat nearby. Admission is free but they ask you to sign in when you arrive. |

My quick count from 2015 was 30-odd dealers, including 3-4 from abroad. |

Thank you all for the very good information. I'm familiar with the Hilton and the subway under Sixth Ave since I stayed there a few times on business and lived in Greenwich Village in the 70s. If we do go to NYC, I will stop by the show and see what's happening while my wife goes shopping or visiting. |

Following up on an old post, I wasn't able to go to this ASDA show in New York, but I may be in Chicago later in March and was looking at the ASDA Midwest Stamp Show. Unless the dealer list is incomplete, it looks like there are only 15 dealers. Is that typical for this show - given that its an ASDA show, I would have expected a lot more dealers. |
