The postal card was mailed three times, the first time as a bill. The card was folded and enclosed with the payment and placed in an envelope and sent back to the original company. The original mailer then re-mailed the card as a receipt, with the Feb 20 paid notation added. They mistakenly placed only 1 cent on the card for the second mailing when 2 cents were required for private mailing cards at this time (as it ceased to be able to be rated as a postal card after the first mailing), and it was returned to the sender. Note the second 1 cent stamp is applied over the returned for postage marking. The second 1 cent stamp was added and it went successfully through the mail on its second remailing.
