No problem. I agree. Ama in this case, I felt Nigel did more than an adequate job of explaining & didn't think any more explanation was necessary! It's a hack job - wild overinking; indecipherable letters; really just a finger-painting expert?!? I'm pretty convinced the negative cancel is fake as well - nothing matches here.

As to Isfila & their proofreading capabilities...well...for what they are charging for your special once-in-a-lifetime museum-quality catalog...I can't say I'm impressed! But it is - after all - Turkey! (The country formerly-known as Turkey??)

And last but not least....an actual article on Ottoman stamps...in the Oneps journal!!! I'd be very curious to hear what you think of the article on 'Ottoman stamps as Emergency Currency' on pages 28-31????

Michael, we do not have many members, those who are, however, like any club, dedicated and hardworking guys and gals.
It takes some dedication to come up with new articles, time after time after time.
I am, for one full of praise for the work they do. I also like the forays into near territories, it widens ones knowledge in general. One needs more than low hanging fruit.

Richard's article on re-purposed for currency, is terrific, completely new territory for me, I was only aware of the 2 Scott examples, the 2 para artillery battery, and the 5 para battlefront commanders.

I shall therefore tease you, and withhold information, that you would know if you joined the membership.

I am assuming these overprints were made in a 2 part process, script as 1 impression, followed by date as another, or then the typesetting varied vastly in operation, if it were in 1 press.

The details provided about Turkish revenues/fiscal is overwhelming but very enlightening. I know I cannot develop a collection of these types of items anywhere near the great extent rod222 and others have. More power to them for doing so and in seeking to fully understand (with extensive research) just what they have. I would like to try to gather a representation of these revenues/fiscal on documents or pieces of documents if possible. One of each type or series would more than do. I know many individual types and series may not even be known on document. From your experience with these items, is it even possible to put together such a reasonable representation on document? Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

I hesitate to say that anything is impossible, but this would take an extraordinary effort. They exist, but extremely scarce & rarely seen for sale. There are numerous revenue stamps that I have never seen offered for sale in any form...

Still smarting, found some rare material up for auction, and slept through the hammer fall. Missed my item by 12 minutes.

OK folks, I've gone through the first 40 pages of this thread last night and tonight, and will probably go through all of it for a great education at some point, but I bought a small lot on ebay, and for what I paid, and what I already could use for my Big Blue, it was a good buy for me.

There was a page of "extras", and I've been able to find some references to these on earlier pages, but a few I haven't found yet:

I think the first one here is on this 110th page of the thread, and I've seen others like the 2nd one mentioned as revenues, but I haven't seen the third one anywhere in the first 40 pages of the thread:



BTW, I sure wish the 1st one had an overprint!!! Is there any value to the revenue (original version?)

These are A22-A26 Turkey in Asia, but I haven't found this overprint in Scott, and haven't seen it in the earlier pages. Any ideas?

My guess is all are mentioned somewhere within 110 pages. Thread is too big & can't find anything anymore...

Happy to give some CVs, but from Isfila 2011. Someone with a more current version can offer better info...

1st row - correct - as you've found these

2nd row - 1st 2 revenues. Minimal value. 3rd one is semi-postal - not in scott - 1916 overprinted Red Crescent. About $10.

3rd row - nice set! These are 5 of a 6 stamp series from 1923 - overprinted Turkey in Asia stamps, for the Izmir Econ Congress. There is a note about these in Scott - at the very end of the Turkey in Asia section. CV app $150. (The one you're missing is the lowest denomination/value)

Last row - Aviation Defense stamps. The full set is 17 stamps. Values range from $2-$10 each. Isfila does not list used prices beyond the 2k denomination.
