Hi Nigel, I'd echo Geoff's comment, lovely filligree work around the corners and capitals. Birken #12a (HG#1) #12a indicates white card (12b yellowish) 1st January 1877, 126x91mm , varies with imprecise cutting. Turkish Inscription: Open Correspondence card of the General Post Office. Quote: Here's one more Ottoman postcard, this time from 1901, H&G #10 on pink card: Birken #34a (Green on Rose card) 1st-14th March 1901 (HG#10) 10 paras Local Post. Local and Inland Mail Turkish, middle Post of the sublime Ottoman Empire. Left Corner : Open correspondence Card. Bottom : On this side only write name, cognomen, and residence of addressee. |

FYI. Under UPU regulations, if a vessel is in port when a letter or postcard is turned in, it is required to be franked with the stamps of the country in whose waters the vessel is located. |

Wow! Fabulous Postmaster, thank you so much. I was aware of the Seapost link, and had visited previously with other countries, but must have missed Turkey. A case of not seeing the forest for the trees. What a great link that is............

Update to long-ago asked question from GeoffHa: Quote: Michael - have you visited Pamuk's Museum of Innocence in Istanbul, which he funded by his Nobel Prize winnings? Well I visited. Sort of. Had friends come to visit - and apparently, at her book club, they had read his book & she promised them she would visit the museum. So we were downtown & decided to wander off to see this museum. Left my wife & son in Taksim & off we went. Wandered in circles - for what seemed like miles. But we found it! (Can't seem to get the picture right side up??) It was so small & silly looking - not another soul in sight. Just an old house in a residential neighborhood that was apparently converted into the museum. My friends wouldn't even go in! It was like $10 admission - and she said she wasn't interested - just wanted to see it & take a picture?! Walk back to Taksim was literally straight up hill. Very thankful I left my wife & kid. It was January, but we were literally sweating & had to take off jackets/sweatshirts etc. All in all - a cute-looking building - but not exactly a memorable experience?!? |

New Discovery. Unlisted Scott or Isfila. (Note : Isfila catalogue error , Isfila 156,157.158, should read 170,171, and 172) Isfila #171 (Sc#P33 1893 Newspaper Stamp with inverted Opt on 2k) Forwarding to O.N.E.P.S. for scrutiny. |

Hi Rod,
This printed matter overprint looks wrong to me in a number of ways.
In particular, I would expect the vertical part of the letter "t" of "matbu" to lean slightly to the left rather than to the right. |

Roger that Nigel, I'll dig out Birken and report later...........
PS: I did think that looked a little dodgy, like someone inked in the stroke afterwards / later. The rest of the opt looks ok, but I shall consult Birken.

o/p is fake...
my isfila has numbers correct?
I've seen inverted overprints on these...no idea why scott doesn't list them. isfila doesn't list any varieties like this... |

Quote: o/p is fake... With respect Michael, I don't personally take any observance to sweeping comments like that. I expect any collector worth his salt, to attach reasoning, so that due diligence and transfer of knowledge can be obtained. Quote: my isfila has numbers correct? I'll see if I can scan the page in my specialists catalogue for your opinion. Quote: I've seen inverted overprints on these...no idea why scott doesn't list them. isfila doesn't list any varieties like this... Aha! thanks for that, that is comforting. albeit, Isfila lists <everything> like this in their specialists catalogue or appears to do so, inverted opts, miss perfs, all sorts of sundry stuff. |

Right, we can confirm, as Nigel suggested, a Lithographic Forged Overprint. (Shall make a nice interesting page for my album) With deep appreciation of member "PostmasterGS" for relevant translation, to make it easy for fellows like myself. https://www.germanstamps.net/German philately for English speakers. Michael, the presumed typo in the Ottoman Specialised. One can see the numbers do not match the images. No big problem. |
